Mona Sonbol, M.D.

Specializing in:
Neurology • Clinical Neurophysiology • Epilepsy

Dr. Mona Sonbol, M.D., is your dedicated neurologist specializing in Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy care. Her passion for patient well-being was ignited while she shadowed at the Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology during her undergraduate studies.

Mona completed her college degree at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities before embarking on her medical journey. She attended the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine for her medical education, where she developed a strong foundation in neuroscience and patient care. Then she attended the University of South Florida to finish her residency and fellowship. Dr. Sonbol’s dedication to the field led her to thrive, and she became board certified in 2022, marking a significant milestone in her journey.

Apart from her five years worth of experience working with and caring for patients with neurological concerns, Dr. Sonbol continues to find fascination in learning more about the nervous system. In fact, she’s collaborated with different professionals in the field and published several journal articles including “Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy” on Medscape Drugs & Diseases, and “Status Epilepticus in Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease: A Case Report of an Unusual Presentation.”

One of Dr. Sonbol’s most fulfilling experiences was when she had been able to help a patient suffering from recurrent episodes of passing out. These episodes not only disrupted the patient’s daily life but also cast a shadow over her ability to drive and maintain her job. After successful diagnosis and treatment, the patient was able to reclaim the life and career they enjoyed.

Mona Sonbol enjoys a variety of hobbies, and likes to stay active by playing basketball and tennis. She can also be a homebody who finds relaxation in cooking and watching TV shows.  But when she’s not immersed in her medical endeavors or her favorite sports, Mona’s a true coffee enthusiast and adventurer. She combines her passion for travel with her love for coffee, seeking out local coffee shops in every new city she visits—a delightful way to savor the flavors of the world!
