Kayla Joyer is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner–Certified. She specializes in sleep medicine, having earned her certifications from Vanderbilt University. Her specific interests include sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, hypersomnolence disorders, and circadian rhythm disorders.
It is the relationship between sleep and other dimensions of health and well-being that drew Kayla to study sleep medicine. She says, “We are fortunate to have many excellent options for treating various sleep disorders. It is gratifying to see how, by treating these disorders and optimizing sleep, patients can see positive changes not only in their physical health, but also in their mental health, personal relationships, and overall quality of life.”
Kayla’s history with MCN goes back to when she was an undergraduate, not yet even studying medicine. An opportunity to shadow providers landed her in our clinic where she observed the respectful and dedicated way that they treated their patients. That stuck with her over the years. “It was clear that the entire team at MCN works hard to create a positive atmosphere for both patients and staff, and this commitment to providing the highest quality care possible has remained consistent over time. It is truly a privilege to be a part of the team at MCN.”
Habits are Kayla’s secret weapon for good overall health. The role of developing healthy habits and behaviors plays a strong part in consistently making positive choices around eating well, maintaining physical activity, optimizing sleep, and reducing stress.
Fun and healthy habits that Kayla practices outside of the office include running while listening to a good podcast and working to grow a tree orchard in her backyard. Her persistence in Tae Kwon Do has certainly paid off, as well – Kayla is a black belt!
