Brent Berry, M.D./ Ph.D. earned his degree at the University of Minnesota and the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He did his residency at multiple locations: the U of MN, Hennepin County Medical Center, VA Medical Center, North Memorial Medical Center (including rotations at MCN) and Regions Hospital. His specialty is neurology with particular interest in Electrophysiology – a branch of physiology that studies the electrical properties of biological cells and tissues. He speaks simplified Mandarin with intermediate proficiency.
Dr. Berry chose to pursue a career in medicine to combine his interest in science and humanitarianism. He says, “….to see the application of science to large populations while still helping individual people.” He focused on neurology, as to him, “Neurology is a frontier in science at this point in time and also presents the most challenging physiology and cases compared to other medical specialties.” His passion is witnessed through the large number of his publications in professional journals.
With his expertise, Dr. Berry was able to help a young woman having a life-threatening or severely disabling basilar stroke. He identified the clot which was removed with mechanical thrombectomy and was able to trace the cause of the stroke. His patient suffered no deficits and became a very memorable patient success story
The Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology is a good match for Dr. Berry as he has “the ability to work in multiple areas of neurology simultaneously and work with a collegial group of people at excellent facilities.”
Dr. Berry’s personal advice for overall good health is a short, succinct list: exercise every day, maintain a consistent sleep schedule, don’t smoke, don’t drink excessively, and limit saturated fats and concentrated sugars in your diet.
Away from the clinic, Dr. Berry enjoys research, spending time with his family, reading non-fiction, and watching movies. He is also an avid soccer player, and part of a local club that participates in both local and international tournaments.
