Becca O’Meara earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at the University of Minnesota. She specializes in geriatric care and has seven years worth of practice in the field. With her fascination towards the intricacies of the brain and passion for helping patients with the latest advancements, she joins the diverse team of compassionate providers at the Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology.
Becca takes a special interest in certain areas of neurology such as sleep disorders, dementia, Parkinson’s, and stroke. Among her pivotal stories as a nurse practitioner was when she was working as the primary care provider for older adults in assisted living facilities. One day, while conducting her rounds, she engaged in conversation with a patient and noticed some signs that resembled stroke-like symptoms. After a neurological exam, her assessment confirmed her suspicions, and she immediately directed the facility’s nurses to call for an ambulance. It was this rapid response that made all the difference. Due to Becca’s prompt intervention, the patient received timely medical attention at the hospital, where they administered thrombolytic treatment to address the stroke.
Becca has an identical twin sister–they came as a surprise to their mom who was only expecting one baby during the delivery. Outside of her work, she balances fostering a bond with her little one and allotting time for her relaxing hobbies such as forest bathing, crocheting, rock painting, and wandering around used bookstores. She’s also an adventurous soul who enjoys hiking at state parks, trail running, and learning kung fu.
Becca views health in a holistic way. She believes that being truly healthy entails having a healthy mind, body, and soul. Finding solace in the embrace of nature, she pairs physical activity with moments of contemplation, creating a sense of headspace that nurtures her spirit.z
I’m very glad Dr. Veen was easy to talk to, seemed very in tuned with what I was saying (an active listener), and didn’t bowl me over with why I was wrong or why she knew so much more (which she does) than me. She let me share my anxiety and then set about describing how “we” were going to tackle diagnosing and treating whatever we found. That was encouraging to me even though some of the discussion was very much anxiety generating. Dr. Veen answered all of our questions and was so comfortable talking to her. She really listened to what we had to say. This was my first time doing a telemedicine appointment and it was very easy and the doctor was as complete as could be without physical interaction. Because of Covid, we had to make appt for a phone visit. We were a little skeptical of this but everything went good. All questions were addressed and a follow up was discussed. Dr. Veen as always gets an A+. I was particularly impressed that the providers came to the waiting room for their patients and escorted them to their offices. Dr Veen gets max points for listening to everything I had to say, seeking my input and developing a mutual plan for next steps. Kudos! Dr. Veen is excellent. I do recommender her to friends!!
